London-based architecture firm Foster + Partners will spearhead the overhaul of the former Whiteley’s department store in London, which will be home to the maiden property of the Six Senses in the UK. Slated to open in 2023, the boutique concept will house 110 guestrooms and suites, in addition to 14,000 square feet of public space.
Interiors of the hotel, spa, and wellness club will be overseen by New York-based design practice AvroKO, in collaboration with executive architects EPR. Classical elements will be accentuated in tandem with Art Deco references across a modern, streamlined narrative, while locally sourced contemporary artwork will instill a sense of place. The ground floor of the property will evoke a convivial, biophilic flair across its public spaces like the intimate lobby bar, lounge and the all-day restaurant, which will be attached to an open kitchen and courtyard. Elegant and eclectic, the hotel will be detailed with thoughtful details throughout such as textured fabrics, bespoke flooring, reclaimed wood furniture, and upholstery of natural tones.
Reminiscent of vintage London, the Six Senses Spa will boast a glamorous lineup of amenities like 11,480 square feet of fitness space, the Alchemy Bar, a 65-foot-long indoor swimming pool, and a relaxation room outfitted beneath vaulted ceilings. In addition, the hotel’s second floor will house another wellness room, as well as a central bar, coworking spaces, and a dining concept.
