For anybody wishing to deviate from traditional home decor, a bespoke headboard for the master bedroom could, quite literally, light up the room.
California native YouTuber and interior design specialist Natazsa shared a crafty DIY alternative to traditional headboards, and many people are loving it.

Using just four component parts and a set of easy-to-follow instructions, this light-up headboard has the potential to transform a bedroom from traditional to fairytale-worthy in next to no time.
You will need a curtain rod, an electric drill, 300 to 600 fairy lights (depending on the size of the bed), hanging hooks, and a sheer curtain of your choice from any homeware store.

Here are the steps you will need to follow:
1. Hang the curtain rod at the height you want your headboard to begin. Even people who are handy with a drill may wish to employ someone to help hold the curtain rod while measurements are taken.
2. Once the curtain rod is successfully attached to the wall, it’s time to affix the hanging hooks. For a full-size bed, you may wish to hang as many as 18 hooks a few inches below the curtain rod at regular intervals.
3. Begin hanging your lights. This step may be fun for meticulous decorators, while others may have to exercise patience! Gradually, however, the final look will start to come together. You might want to have the lights switched on as you hang them for better visibility.
Untangle the string of lights as you go. To emulate Natazsa’s concertina effect, you will need to drape the lights low, hang them on a hook, and repeat until the string of lights runs out. When you are finished hanging, the lights should illuminate a panel on the wall that will become the backdrop for your light-up headboard.
4. When all lights are hung, gently take down the curtain rod and feed the sheer curtain onto the rod. Rehang the rod on the wall and arrange the curtain to suit your desired look. Now is the time to step back and admire your handiwork.
